What a projection shows
- The projected value in 1, 3 and 5 years, and how far that is above or below today
- A likely range around it: a bear case, a base case and a bull case
- A confidence read: how well the car's value and trend are supported by its sales
How it is built
The projection starts from the car's current market value and its measured trend. A depreciating car does not keep falling at today's rate forever: its decline slows each year and drifts toward a floor, the way depreciation curves behave. A car that is appreciating or flat follows a slower curve paced by how collectible it is. The range widens as confidence falls.
What it is not
Collector car prices are hard to forecast, and a projection is not a prediction of what one specific car will sell for. The confidence read describes the quality of the data behind the estimate, not certainty about the future. Condition, provenance and the market on the day move any single sale.
